Taxes collection by misterb&b

In certain jurisdictions, short-term occupancy is subject to state and/or local taxes. Depending on the jurisdiction, these may be referred to as lodging taxes, stay taxes, hotel or room taxes, sales taxes, transient occupancy/accommodation taxes, general excise taxes, etc. In some areas, taxes on tourist stays include Value Added Tax (VAT) or Goods and Services Tax (GST). These taxes are paid by travelers booking short-term rental accommodations.

misterb&b voluntarily collects, or is required to collect, a range of applicable taxes on short-term rentals.

  • misterb&b collects these taxes directly from your Guests, then reports and remits them on your behalf, as the Host, to the relevant authorities. In rare cases, misterb&b collects the tax amount from your Guests and passes it to you (in the payout), in which case you remain responsible for filing the collected taxes.
  • Please note that in certain jurisdictions, you, as a Host, may still be required to register with the local tax authority or to report bookings for which misterb&b manages the tax. We recommend checking your remaining obligations with your local tax administration.
  • Even where misterb&b collects taxes on your behalf, you are not exempt from other regulatory requirements, such as registration or licensing obligations.

How do I determine if misterb&b manages tax collection in my area?

As a Host, your local tax authorities may audit your hosting activities, which may include reviewing records of tax collection and filings.

As a Guest, how to obtain the reimbursement of taxes I should not have paid?

As a Guest, if you believe you have paid taxes in error (for example, taxes from which you were exempt), please contact the local tax authorities directly. misterb&b acts solely as a tax collector and does not have the legal authority to request or obtain reimbursement of these taxes on your behalf.
