This is a presentation of the regimes of the regional identification code that short-term rentals/tourist rentals are required to obtain in Italy.
Please note each Region / Autonomous Provinces (Trento and Bolzano) follows different procedures for applying for and obtaining the identification code. We invite you to contact the relevant bodies in your Municipality or Region/Province to receive the latest and most detailed information regarding the identification code. You may also seek help from a local legal expert.
What is the regional identification code (codice identificativo regionale)?
The Regional Identification Code (CIR) is an alphanumeric code linked to each accommodation facilities/STRs. It serves as a unique identifier assigned by Regions/Autonomous Provinces (Trento and Bolzano), for various purposes (mainly statistical, administrative and control purposes). The CIR may have different local names: please refer to the table below.
Types of accommodations targeted
The identification code is assigned by Regions/Autonomous Provinces (Trento and Bolzano) to all accommodation facilities (strutture ricettive) and short-term rentals (locazioni brevi) (in the sense of Article 4 of Decreto-Legge No. 50 of April 24, 2017).
Please note that Regions/Autonomous Provinces (Trento and Bolzano) may define different categories of strutture ricettive: please refer to your local laws/regulations.
Where a Region/Autonomous Province (Trento and Bolzano) does not assign an identification yet, the national law mandates the assignment of a national code for all strutture ricettive and locazioni brevi (in the sense of Article 4 of Decreto-Legge No. 50 of April 24, 2017).
Publication of the identification code
You can decide to add your CIR code to your misterb&b listing(s) (go to the “Local Requirements” page, via “Edit my listing”). However, the mandatory information to provide is the codice identificativo nazionale (CIN). You must add it to your listing, because in absence of a valid CIN, misterb&b may delete your listing(s). Obtaining your regional identification code
Application procedures are unique to each Regions/Autonomous Provinces (Trento and Bolzano). It can also vary according to the type of accommodations.
Please check the table below for links to official pages detailing how to obtain the CIR. It's worth noting that certain procedures for code acquisition might not be firmly delineated. In such instances where clarity is lacking, we strongly recommend reaching out to the pertinent authorities within your region/municipality.
